According to all historical and UN documents, the waterway
between Iran (Persia) and the Arabic countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,
the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain is called “Persian Gulf”. Recently a
new and strange move of the usage of “Arabian Gulf” has been
raised.
Though apparently to use this name instead of that name will
not change anything, but I am afraid this will cause lots of confusions and
conflicts between Iran
(Persia) and
the Arabic countries.
For example some 17,000 changes have been made since the
previous edition of National Geographic Atlas of the World and “Arabian
Gulf” has been included in the parentheses beside the name “Persian
Gulf”. And when they are asked for the reason, they simply answer:
“We included "Arabian Gulf,"
in parentheses, as a secondary or alternate name
on the atlas plates that show the gulf at the largest, most detailed scale.
That's because we recognize that some countries and organizations use "Arabian
Gulf" as their official or preferred name.
We do, and will continue, to recognize "Persian
Gulf" as the primary name. But we want people
searching for "Arabian Gulf" to
be able to find what they're looking for and not to confuse it with the nearby Arabian
Sea.”
And what is more dangerous is that the atlas labels three
islands Abu-Musa, Greater and Lesser Tonb (Tunb) in the “Persian Gulf”
claimed by the United Arab Emirates
as “occupied by Iran”.
Not only I consider this as a violation to all historical
and UN documents, but a background for some new wars in “Persian
Gulf”.
Don’t beat the drums of wars! It is really dangerous!
